"Daybreak on the Tongass"

Its been quite a long time since posting anything on our blog.  Been hanging out over at Facebook as its easier to communicate with family and friends.  Anyway about a year ago a co-worker approached me about doing a commission pastel drawing for another co-worker who was retiring after 20+ years working for the government.   For about 10 months or so I sort of sketched up a number of ideas, even tried to draw a family portrait of his parents, and mainly took photos of sunsets and sun rises of the area.  Here are few photos of the work in progress (WIP)...

All in all it was a fun process to get through after being away from the drawing board for so long.  I decide it was best to stick with traditional dry approach versus doing a wet brush under coat.  The commissioned artwork was well received at the retirement ceremony by my co-worker.  Another co-worker presented a Haida carved paddle which was an amazing piece of artwork.  

Student Art Fall 2013 - Winter/Spring 2014

Three students (ages 9-14) created drawings using a wide range of subject matter, including drawing from upside down photos, paper bags, skull replicas, fruit, fabric... and imagination!

 

 

 

 

 

 

  

 

Nine artists between the ages of 9 and 13 years old created a drawing of a tiger in nine-part harmony.

Each student was assigned one section of a tiger photograph to draw without seeing the full photo. The result is wonderful! I love the different renderings of whiskers and fur.

We've got a new set of mountain landscape paintings that we are excited to post, by two home school students and their mom - a family of landscapes!

"The Blacksmith"

While visiting Patricia's family in Calgary (Alberta, Canada) we did a family outing at Heritage Park Historical Village. We both took a number of photos thorough-out the park of the various attractions. In one particular area we noticed a blacksmith working at his anvil so I took a few photos in hopes that one would lend itself for a drawing in the future. The above painting was done from one of those photos. It took a while for me to finish but it was well worth the wait as I felt like this particular drawing really push me to a new level. Out of my comfort zone. Going to try to get a few prints made up before framing it.
