One way to ensure that your color drawing or painting is working in terms of tonality and value is to convert the color photo to black & white. If the b/w picture appears to be dull, that is sameness of tonal value, then you need to increase the contrast. This will require some changes in your color choices.

Ketchikan's Annual Quilt Show

The "Rainy Day Quilters" guild held its annual quilt show on February 20, 2010, at the community center in Saxman. It was an incredible display of (local) talent, artistry, and inspiration. We look forward to attending the quilt show every year. These photos give just a small glimpse of some amazing quilts.

Fruit and Flower Studies

and re-created a wonderful artistic impression of it.

but Paul makes it very colorful and real.

Glass, Pottery and Drapery

Pat photographed various lighting and viewpoints of a still life scene. A small glass bottle and ceramic vase with a muslin fabric backdrop soon became colorful works of art. Each student chose a photo to paint from and then began filling their canvases with beautiful strokes in realism and abstract, color and texture, light and shadow. Pat participated by doing a painting too. Enjoy the wonderful variety in this art gallery!
