Cedar Springs Fishing Lodge

Dad and I departed on Thursday morning early to head up to the tiny town of Cedar Springs in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Bill Denton my brother-in-law followed along in his pickup truck. It did my heart some good to see the Blue Ridge Mountains and the surrounding rolling farm lands. It has been too many years since I last saw them and even walked among the creeks and fields.

We met up with my older brother Mike in front of a Wal-Mart, who was accompanied by his young son Matthew, and father-in-law Dick. After saying our hello’s we spent the next hour or so shopping for “guy foods” for the whole group.

Once we completed this we headed off again on the road to the Cedar Springs which was about half-hour drive into the mountains. The sencery along the way was beath taking.

Upon our arrival at Cedar Springs Fishing Lodge we were greeted by my Dad’s brother Paul who traveled down from Maryland earlier in the day and was already at the lodge waiting on us.
After about a half hour of unloading our vehicles of fishing gear and “guy foods” we all rushed off down to the river wet our lines before dinner time. For those who had been on the river before they rushed off to their favorite fishing hole, for us newbie’s we kind of wandered from one fishing hole to another to get familiar with the river.

A late afternoon thunder storm was trying to roll into the valley but went around us. Here is the view of Cedar Springs Lodge with the storm clouds pressing in around us. We each spent the rest of the afternoon and early evening trying to pull-in a few trout for dinner.
I had to remind everyone that if we were going to eat tonight that we needed to put down the rods and reels. We headed to town that night to eat at burger joint. It was late when we got back to the lodge.

Here is a picture of the cabins located down by the river. They are part of the original homestead when the owners family first came to this place.
