Once we get through the backside of the lake we come to a little beaver like pond surrounded by skunk cabbage with leaves that seem to be as big as elephant ears. Trust me the plant lives up to its name. Earlier in the spring when these plants first start punching shoots through the soils the black bears will dine on them. After a certain point the plant becomes too bitter for them to eat. If one walks the Lake often enough this pond is a neat place to stop each time to watch it development throughout the year.
